ProdeLibre started as a pick'em pool among friends for Argentine football. Today it has fourteen tournaments, nine countries and three languages. I'll tell you what changed and why.
Seven new tournaments
Until recently you could set up your pick'em pool for Copa Argentina, Clausura, Libertadores and the four big European leagues. Now seven more are added:
Liga MX (México), Brasileirão (Brasil), MLS (Estados Unidos), Primera de Uruguay, Primera de Chile, Liga BetPlay (Colombia) and Liga 1 (Perú).
That's fourteen tournaments in total. The fixtures, results, standings and stats for each one update automatically, as always. And they work the same way: you pick the tournament, name the group, send the link and start picking.
Nine countries, each with its own version
This is what took the most work and what is least visible.
ProdeLibre now has a version for each country: Argentina, Uruguay, Chile, Colombia, Perú, México, España, Brasil and Estados Unidos. It's not the same page with a different flag. Each one opens with the tournaments of that country, shows times in its time zone and uses its own terminology.
Because it turns out this isn't called a "prode" everywhere. In Chile and Colombia it's la polla. In México, la quiniela. In Uruguay, la penca. In España, la porra. In Brasil, o bolão. In United States, a pick'em pool.
I could have just put "pick'em pool" everywhere and be done with it. But if you enter a site that talks about something using a name that's different in your country, it doesn't quite feel right. So each country has its own.
Português and English
The whole site is translated into Portuguese and English. Not just the homepage: the fixtures, results, standings, stats, your account and even the emails you get.
Everyone sees it in their own language, and you can change it from My Account whenever you want. If you start a group with people from different countries, everyone reads it in their own language without having to agree on anything.
There are three more languages ready —German, Italian and French— waiting for a review before going live.
Now it's prodelibre.com
We changed domains. Your account, your groups and your picks are exactly the same: you don't have to do anything.
What's next
More tournaments, more countries and a few things I've been owing for a while. I'll keep you posted here.
If you find this useful, the best way to help me out is still the same: start your group and invite people.
See you on the pitch.
